Alex Hornsby

Product Design Engineering Graduate

 Skills

The Product Design Engineering course at Loughborough University has increased my inherent creative and design abilities to include knowledge of design engineering; to understanding manufacturing processes and requirements; and the ability to analyse production processes all to a much deeper level. Modules within the course have included: Engineering Science, Manufacturing Design, Electronics and Electrical Design, Industrial and Product Design, Polymers and applications and Rapid Prototyping plus engineering management and computer aided design. My creative skills are now more than just ideas; I can translate them into practical, workable, feasible product design solutions.

Competent in using UGS NX5 and SolidEdge 3D design software coupled with the foundation of engineering theory and design study achieved through this degree culminated with my dissertation concentrating on a potential new laboratory test rig for a major global electronics group which was well received. I am also trained to a City and Guilds level of AutoCAD.

Apart from technical and creative skills, I am motivated and can be relied upon to remain task focused. Independent and yet enjoy being a member of a team and know I can make a positive contribution to a forward looking company, proved from my year in industry in Munich (see DIS Work Experience section).
